LARGE NUMBERS TURN OUT AS PENARTH PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE FALLENIn the first ” restriction free” post-COVID Remembrance Sunday, local residents – of all ages – have turned out in unprecedented numbers to pay tribute to the townspeople who gave their lives in two world wars and in subsequent conflicts. At Penarth’s spectacular main war memorial in Alexandra Park [which unaccountably is not used by the main British Legion parade] a group of students from Stanwell School assembled to lay poppy wreaths on the famous Goscombe John monument at exactly 11:00 am. The Alexandra Park memorial bears the most complete record there is of the all town’s fallen. Stanwell School (formerly Penarth Grammar School) holds its own wreath-laying here because this is where the majority of former Stanwell students who were killed in action are commemorated. LINK
