Remembrance day.
Veterans proudly marching upright their heads held high,
Men and women who fought on land, sea and in the sky.
For freedom for our world they did fight,
To give us hope and peace, to give us light.
Their polished medals worn proudly on their chest,
On their uniform their regiment colours embroidered on a crest.
As they walk past the cenotaph, with a tear they give a salute,
From those that experienced war, a fitting lasting tribute.
Tears hidden within sad watery respectful eyes,
Trying to forget the horrors of battlefield cries.
Remembering the day the guns fell silent with a sigh of relief,
Not forgetting the Families who had to deal with the grief.
Veterans who came home without friends who fought by their side,
They will cherish the memories and sacrifice of those that died.
The poppy a tribute is worn to show the world we still care,
To let the fallen know that for them, we will always be there.
On November 11th the nation bows its head in respect and silent thought,
Hoping the lessons of the past have been remembered and taught.
A scarlet red poppy around the nation will be worn,
For the past sacrifices the nation will respectfully mourn.
Dignitaries, veterans, Royalty with bowed heads will lay a wreath,
On the grave in Westminster abbey of the unknown warrior who lies beneath.
The last post around the country will sound in memory to all,
As a fitting tribute for all of those in our wars who did fall.
The debt we owe for your sacrifice we will never be able to measure,
For the freedom and peace you gave us we will always treasure.
As the country pays tribute with lasting gratitude and pride,
Lest we forget our brave women and men who fought and died.
