VIA: Craig Ramos - Tiger Bay and the WorldThe Industrial School Ship Havannah (not to be confused with the Hamadryad the Seaman's Hospital or the Thisbe the gospel or chapel ship, run by the Missions to Seamen) was laid up on the Mud Flats by Penarth Road. She was an historic vessel, having twice sailed around the world and been one of the vessels that escorted Napoleon Bonaparte into exile on St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean in 1815. She was bought to Cardiff in 1860 to become a Ragged School - a charitable organisation dedicated to the free education of destitute children in 19th century. She became an Industrial School Ship in 1862 offering care and industrial training to semi-delinquent boys and ran until 1905.
