2011 Will see the relaunch of the Paddle Steamer Barry, albeit in model form, we hope to see a 9ft working model sail the local lake in Barry in a commemoration of the towns lost paddler.
The working model is well into her build and several static models will also be featured, one of which will appear in her wartime colours of basically grey.
The further models will hopefully appear in her original livery, but we still research these colours and any assistance would be welcomed. Anyone that can point us in the right direction of the 1907 build of the PS Barry would be assisting much.
The Barry of everlasting fame served many masters and her country twice, WWI as the Barry Field as far as the Dardenelles and as Snaefell in WW2. between wars she bore the name Waverley twice.
She was lost as Snaefell off Sunderland, the wreck has been recently found.
As a WW2 loss she is know an official War Grave.
Hence rememberd in perpetuity as Snaefell, more than Barry or Waverley.
Please assist if pos.
Otherwise please spare a thought for the lives lost:
HMS Snaefell suffered three casualties when she was sunk:
001 BRETT F - HMS SNAEFELL 05/07/1941 ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE
002 LEGGETT JMH D/JX 149500 HMS SNAEFELL 05/07/1941 ROYAL NAVY
003 WALKER J D/JX 175434 HMS SNAEFELL 05/07/1941 ROYAL NAVY
Thanks:
