VIA: Dublin Central Branch, Royal British LegionWestminster Abbey has announced that it will be holding a thanksgiving service to celebrate the life and musical work of Dame Vera Lynn. Known as the Forces’ Sweetheart, the singer sold more than a million records by the age of 22, as her songs became reminders of home to the British troops fighting in World War II. Dame Vera passed away in June 2020, aged 103, bringing an end to a 90-year career that included performing her songs to troops on the front line in countries such as India and Egypt, as part of the Entertainments National Service Association. The service, which will be held at 12:00hrs on Monday, March 21, will honour her life and pay tribute to some of her most beloved songs. LINK
