Barry Island tripper boat "Silver Queen" 1920's till 1940
The 'Silver Queen' and the 'Silver Spray' were among the first propeller-driven passenger boats to appear at Barry Island, and gradually replaced the numerous rowing boats that plied for hire in the bay.
Dunkirk Little Ship "Silver Queen" (now Fermain V) Is believed to have sailed from Barry Island via Ramsgate to help rescue the stranded British solders on the Beach in 1940.
On her last trip back from Dunkirk she drifted into German occupied Calais and was machine gunned but managed to drop everybody off before she sank. She was later refloated and operated as a ferry in Sheerness and Guernsey. She is now in Windsor and took part in the 70th anniversary crossing last year.
