The following received from National MNA. If you have some good stories out there now is the time to share them.
RE: The possibility of including a film about the Merchant Navy in this year’s BBC1 series Remembrance Week.
Following the success of last year’s series, Remembrance Week is due back on our screens in the week leading up to Remembrance Sunday and celebrates stories of courage, emotion and sacrifice made by thousands of people from all walks of life and from all over the UK. We bring together the reality of modern day conflicts with those of the past and seek to show the different way war touches all of our lives.
I would therefore love to hear from anyone who served as a Merchant Seamen during WW2 – it’s all about telling their personal story and journey through that time which will enable us to highlight the amazing work and sacrifice that was made. If suitable our chosen person would have to be happy to be interviewed on camera and ideally have a good collection of personal archive (photos, letters, diaries, souvenirs etc).
Another story interest would be if you knew a ‘celebrity’ who had a relative that served in the Merchant Navy in WW1 or WW2. We would contact them in the hope that they would be excited about exploring their ancestor’s journey on those treacherous waters, again to demonstrate what life was like during those times.
Thank you in advance for circulating this, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Kind regard
Caroline
