VIA: All at Sea Richard Kinsella
Extract from 'Whispers in the Night' Passing Ships A placid sea, A moonless night, A canopy of black infinity, A profusion of glittering stars Shimmering in reflection Upon a mirrored sea, Seamless with the firmament.
A watch-keeper Shares an ethereal moment, Weightless at one With the black immensity, Only the distant throb Of a muted engine dispels the illusion.
From out of the night A small light flashes Another ship signals, 'Titanic', bound New York, The watchkeeper replies, 'Ship of Hope' bound Eternity.
Flashes of phosphorescence Illuminates their bow waves Against the dark mournful ocean, Crew and passengers abed oblivious As two ships share a destiny, Ships that pass in the night.
