CAP BADGE
He wore that badge in rain or shine, It belonged to dad but now it's mine. It's brightness gone, it's colors fade, From the salty air on trips he made.
I took the badge from the cap he wore, All that he saved, and nothing more. Survivors went to Belfast town, A few were saved, while others drowned.
The war went on my dad as well, Not much said of his time in Hell. But the badge I have, keeps the old Man near, His time at sea and memories dear.
The day will come when I am done, I'll pass that badge on to my son. A faded badge of a seaman bold, Well worth it's weight in precious gold.
