VIA: Guto Thomas - The merchant navy association memorial page.The SS City of Cardiff, a merchant steamer. On the 28th August 1942, she was sailing as part of convoy SL-119 when she was struck by a torpedo from the German submarine U-566. The ship managed to stay afloat for 2 days before she foundered, taking 21 sailors down with her.
