WHITE FRENCH WARSHIP “LAPEROUSE” PASSES PENARTH HEAD.Oct 8. It was "une arrivee a l'aube'" this morning for the French warship Laperouse passing Penarth at sunrise on her way to dock in Cardiff. Arriving off Penarth this morning was the French warship Lapérouse (A 791) - which is described as a "hydrography survey vessel". The vessel carries out hydrographic work for the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOM), but is currently attached to the French Naval Action Force (FAN). All French hydrographic and scientific naval vessels are painted white - although, frankly, Laperouse looks as though she could do with "une nouvelle couche de peinture". Disappointingly Laperouse is due to sail again after "le weekend" - thus denying the officers and crew the opportunity to take part in celebrations to mark Trafalgar Day - which is coming up on October 21st.
