10th October 1898, OPENING OF BARRY No. 2 DOCK. Opened today in 1898 without any formal ceremony. The first ship into the new dock was the steamer Solent. The dock cost about £2,000,000 to build and had 10 coal tips. It was expected to ship 3 million tons of coal a year.
