Keeping the lights on for lighthousesThey have guided ships in the sea and kept sailors safe for centuries. But soon the iconic sweeping beams of lighthouses will become rarer as many are replaced by flashing LEDs. Trinity House, which owns and manages more than 60 lighthouses in the UK, said it is making this change for efficiency and safety purposes. It will happen over the next few years. LINK

Royal Navy Frigate HMS Richmond is now protecting merchant shipping in the Red Sea after relieving HMS Diamond. She is one of two Type 23 frigates currently deployed east of Suez on maritime security duties. Richmond's sister HMS Lancaster has been operating in the Middle East since late 2022. Bristling with weapons and sensors, a Wildcat helicopter armed with Martlet missiles, and crewed by 200 dedicated and highly-trained sailors and Royal Marines, the Type 23 is not merely the backbone of the Fleet, but a formidable and highly capable warship.
