Barry Dock RNLI Festival of the Sea
And here’s the announcement you’ve been waiting for!
The Festival of the Sea will take place on Barry Island Gardens and the Promenade on 1-2 June. There will be loads going on, so we’ll be adding details as we go, but we’re excited to start sharing some of the headlines!
A key part of the festival is the free sea shanty music that you’ll find in the huge marquee on Barry Island Gardens. Sea Shanty groups from all over the UK will be providing top class entertainment, led by the fabulous Bois Y Bryn. We’re really grateful to this spectacular sea shanty band for leading on this part of the festival and bringing the sea shanty community to Barry Island for the first time.
Expect to enjoy sea shanties across both days of the festival from these amazing groups:
• Bois Y Bryn
• Mariners Away
• The 85ers
• Cousin Jack singers
• The Exmouth Shanty Men
• The Cobweb Crew
• The Steepholmers
• ACapella Moonshine
• Loose Cannons
• Stuns'ls
• Barry Island Ukulele Strummers
• The Beachd Bouys Shanty Band
• The Harry Browns Of Bristol.
• The Drecklys
• Port of Bristol Shanty Crew
• Wrecked Again Shanty Crew
• Them Bristow Girls
And, as we’re in Barry, we’ll be joined by the Barry Male Voice Choir too, who will kick off the festival for us on Saturday. Timings of each set will be published before the event so you don’t miss you your favourites!
And for those of you who don’t want the party to end, some of the sea shanty bands will also be visiting a few of the local watering points on Saturday evening to perform. Again, we’ll keep you informed!
Watch out tomorrow for a further announcement – including food, stalls and some great activities for younger visitors to get involved in. It’s going to be a blast!
