On Wednesday the 14th she passed the Azores and between 1800 and 1830 hrs sent a wireless message "passed Fayal this afternoon, nine knots,twenty six ton bunkers consumed. Rough weather. All well. Nothing more was ever heard from the Anglo Australian. Four men from Kinsale were aboard: Patrick Mccarthy 18 years old and his brother James 29. The only sons of Patrick Mccarthy (Paddy Boney) and Julia Driscoll from Scilly. Ben Arnopp 39 years, son of Robert and Dora Ann Arnopp, Jackie Mahoney 27 years. The board of trade opened an inquiry into the loss of the ship. Various possibilities were outlined. The conclusion was that "she broke her back " The Anglo Australian remains a haunting maritime enigma, its disappeared echoing through the annals of history, leaving behind unanswered questions and tales of lost souls vanished into the vastness of the Atlantic leaving no trace behind.
