Fundy National Park, Parks Canada 🎉 Happy Birthday, Molly Kool! 🎂 Did you know that Myrtle “Molly” Kool was a trailblazer of the seas? Born in Alma, she became the first registered female sea captain or shipmaster in North America. 🌊⚓ At just 21 years old, Molly joined the Merchant Marine School in Saint John (NB) making her the only woman ever to do so. In the 1930s, she graduated and received her Master Mariner’s papers, breaking barriers and rewriting history. 🌟 Her legacy lives on: the Canadian Coast Guard named an icebreaker after her, the CCGS Captain Molly Kool. A monument near the wharf in Alma commemorates her remarkable accomplishment. 🚢 Cheers to Molly Kool, a true maritime pioneer! 🎈🌊
