Event; ORGANISED BY THE MERCHANT NAVY ASSOCIATION (Wales) Barry branch and ST MARYS CHURCH, BARRY. Held at 'The Anchor', memorial, dock side. Barry Waterfront, near opposite Morrisons.
SEA SUNDAY BARRY
Sea Sunday, is a day to to honour and remember all seafarers’ past and present. Locally the day will again be organised jointly by the Barry branch of the Merchant Navy Association (Wales) and St Mary’s Church, Barry. This will take place at the Seafarer's Memorial (The Anchor) on Barry Waterfront, (Dock side off the Morrison’s roundabout) on Sunday, 14 July 2024 at 2pm.
The local MNA branch ask people to join with them this Sea Sunday to remember seafarers’ and give thanks for the crucial work they do.
Both the town and the Vale remember the many locals lost during conflict. Please join in.
Relatives, loved ones and members of the public and all organisations welcome. This remembrance is important to all. Sacrifices of the Merchant Navy and will be remembered further near Merchant Navy Day, September 3rd at the Merchant Navy Monument in the town. Many recall the numbers of casualties the Merchant Navy suffered during all conflicts, many were from or sailed from Barry.
Attending will help remember these people, and their greatly undervalued contribution to the conflicts: Barry (and district) suffered proportionately more than most other areas in the loss of those whose normal life was working on ships. Every year churches around the world celebrate Sea Sunday. It is a day for people to come together to pray for seafarers and fishermen and all that work on the sea and thank them for the vital role they play in all of our lives. Please join us, all are welcome.
