Thomas Simpson is 91 years old and lives in Windsor, Ontario. Thomas Simpson served mostly on the High Seas in the North Atlantic when the hostilities during the Battle of the Atlantic and the Second World War were at their worst. As a Radar Operator he performed his duties with outstanding seamanship setting a new standard at the time with a wholehearted devotion to duty, worthy of the high traditions of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Navy. He is one of only 114 Canadians to receive the Distinguished Service Medal (D.S.M) during the Second World War. Thomas Simpson is known to be the last living holder of the Distinguished Service Medal in Canada. In 1964, Thomas Simpson joined Customs Canada and worked as Customs and Immigration Officer at the Windsor/Detroit border until his retirement in 1987.
