Cammell Laird will break a 200-year ban on members of the public entering the Birkenhead shipyard so this can bid a fond farewell to HMS Edinburgh this weekend.
Edinburgh, which was built at Laird’s in 1983, will be moored at the yard’s Wet Basin and open for free public tours on Saturday, Sunday and Monday between 11am and 4pm.
She is the Royal Navy’s largest Type 42 Destroyer but will be decommissioned next month with the new Type 45 Daring class destroyers taking over her duties
