TS Dolphin: HMS Dolphin was built in Middlesbrough in 1882 and saw action in the Mediterranean. By the 1920s she was in Leith Docks, where she was used as a boys’ club. From 1944, Leith Nautical College used the Dolphin to provide seamanship training for cadets and deck boys. A catering course for ships’ cooks was later added, run by the Atholl Crescent School of Domestic Science. The first Captain of TS Dolphin was Captain Adam Tait. Accommodation was provided on board for up to 50 boys. During her life over 4000 boys received training aboard the Dolphin, before finding jobs with many different shipping lines of the Merchant Navy. In 1977, with the erection of a new, well-equipped college building, the Dolphin was no longer needed, and she was towed to Bo’ness to be scrapped. LINK
