Merchant Navy Stamps First Day Cover - UK: The six Special Stamps are affixed to a cover bearing an image of the Merchant Navy’s Red Ensign, which also includes a filler card written by Captain Richard Woodman, discussing the essential role played by the Merchant Navy during the darkest days of the Second World War. Like the other First Day Covers in this Special issue it is cancelled with a Clydebank postmark; chosen in honour of the fact that many Merchant Navy vessels, including the Queen Elizabeth and the Cutty Sark, were built in Clydeside shipyards.
