Poppy campaign rejected for lottery funding is saved:A Royal British Legion scheme to plant millions of poppies across Britain to mark the centenary of the First World War has been saved, after it was refused a grant by the official organisation tasked with funding commemorations. The project, which had been endorsed by David Cameron as well as Prince Charles, had been facing an uncertain future after an application for £92,000 was turned down by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), which said it could not assist because demands for its grants were so high. But the nationwide project, which had been launched by a legion branch in Greenhithe, Kent, is now being taken over by the organisation’s headquarters, which has recruited B&Q, to carry on the scheme. The decision was announced after representatives from the branch met with their head office staff this morning. The revived campaign will be officially launched next month LINK
