The Elizabeth Cross ?This prestigious award is awarded to families of personnel who died on operations or as a result of terrorist attack on or after 1st January 1948. This includes families of merchant seafarers. New to me, will endeavour to find out more. K. LINK

The centre bears the crowned cypher of Queen Elizabeth II. The cross is backed by a representation of a laurel wreath. The Queen's Broadcast to the Armed Forces:On 1 July 2009, Her Majesty spoke to members of the Armed Forces around the world as she announced the introduction of the Elizabeth Cross, a special emblem and scroll which will be presented to the next of kin of servicemen and women who have given their lives during operations.
