THE players, officials and supporters of Barry Town United and Undy Athletic paid their respects to the fallen at the weekend, as part of Remembrance Week. Barry captain James Saddler and secretary David Cole laid a wreath in the centre circle before the sides' Welsh Cup encounter; while a minute's silence was also observed spotlessly by the crowd at Jenner Park. A total of over £130 was raised for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal, by way of programme sales and a collection held during the match. LINK

Remembrance Sunday services: These events don't just happen. Members of the Royal British Legion and other local civic groups go to huge lengths to organise the parades and services, along with the clergy, police and many others. All these efforts need to be recognised. We owe so much to those who have served and their families. Lest we forget. Alun Cairns MP Vale of Glamorgan LINK

Barry remembers: I WOULD like to pass on my thanks to the Royal British Legion for organising such a successful Remembrance Day march in Barry on Sunday, November 10. Next year will see the anniversary of 100 years since the start of the Great War and this will be the opportunity for our children to learn of the devastation of conflict but also about the sacrifice made by so many during those few years. There may no longer be any living survivors of the First World War, but we will continue to remember them not only during the commemorations next year but we shall continue to show our gratitude every year on Remembrance Sunday. Councillor Claire Curtis Mayor of Barry LINK
